Blue Lotus Workshops and Show - September 13, 2008
sponsored by Synergy Rhythm and Dance
Dark Side traveled to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois to study and perform with the fabulous Blue Lotus tribe of Chicago and Synergy Rhythm and Dance (directed by our favorite belly dancer - economics professor Sahira Zedaré).  At this show Dark Side gave the debut performance of Ann Shaffer's newest choreograpy Coin Operated Boy.

Benefit and Memory Hafla for Jo Smith - August 16, 2008

Dark Side Tribal joined many dancers from southern Indiana plus musicians Il Troubadore for this Halfa.  The event was a tribute to a local dancer Jo Smith who passed away recently and was a fundraiser for an important cause to her, the Autism Research Foundation.  More than $1000 were raised!

Dark Side Tribal hosted a day of workshops with Sahira and an evening show.  Everyone left Sahira's workshops ready and inspired to use some new tribal fusion moves and all the performances at the show were excellent. Thank you to everyone who participated! 



Tribal Revolution

Dark Side Tribal enjoyed this amazing, annual event again this year.  The Friday Hafla included many midwest belly dancers including DST.  The Dark Side Dancers spent the weekend studying in workshops taught by some incredible dancers including Unmata  and  Gypsy Caravan.


Dark Side Tribal Spring Hafla, May 2008

Each Spring (and Fall), DST hosts a hafla to showcase the accomplishments of Ann's students and share food with friends and family.  Lots of open dancing and surprise performances.
 


Hatije's Hafla Benefit for Middle Way House, April 2008

DST and several local belly dance troupes danced to the music of Salaam at Max's Place in Bloomington, IN to raise funds for Bloomington's shelter for women and children.   Look for this event next year in April at Max's new and larger location.

Tribal Pura, February 2008

Carolena Nericcio of FatChanceBellyDance and Megha Gavin of Devyani Dance Company visited Bloomington for a weekend of workshops and a show.  Dark Side Tribal and Ann Shaffer's students performed the opening act.
