Maria

Virginia (Director)

Regen started her dance education in 2005 with her Cabaret/Raks teacher Lois Silverman of Bloomington, IN. Along the way, she met and befriended the lovely dancers of Dark Side and began studying with them in 2010 as well. Since then, they have become sisters as well as troupe-mates. Regen currently holds GS certification with the FCBD® studio and hopes to pursue more certifications in the future.

Sarah is a fairy creature who entered this realm when she was swapped as an infant for a human child. She began dancing in 2011, and honors Dark Side co-founder Heather as her first teacher. She has experimented with studies in Egyptian dance, Datura style improvisation, and fusion, but the wild surprises and joys of FCBD® style remain first in her heart. She should not be left unsupervised with glitter or other shiny objects.

Virginia is originally from Spain, but she moved to the U.S. in 2001, finally settling down in Indiana. Her dance journey began in Ohio in 2005 with Sacred Shimmy and continued in Indiana with Dark Side. Virginia has trained extensively with Fat Chance Belly Dance®, having completed General Skills twice, Teacher Training, and Advanced Teacher Training. Virginia is certified to offer Partner Studio Continuing Education Credits  to other FCBD® partner studios.

TROUPE MEMBERS

Dark Side is an FCBD® style dance troupe and FatChanceBellyDance® Partner Studio based in Bloomington, IN. We formed in early 2006 with the goal of exploring and promoting the strength, power, and grace of belly dance, as well as celebrating the community-building aspects of improvisational group dance.

Becky has been studying dance since 2012. Before joining Dark Side in 2020, she was an ITS and fusion dancer with Boheme Tribal in Kalamazoo, Michigan for six years. She enjoys the inclusiveness of FCBD style belly dance and those amazing moments that can only happen through improvised dance. She's notorious for breaking out dance moves anywhere and to any music — including at an impromptu performance at her own wedding.

Jenny

Jenny’s FCBD® style journey began in 2013 when she took lessons briefly with the lovely Sarah of Dark Side. She then resumed lessons with Virginia in late 2016, and joined Dark Side Troupe in 2018. As a supporter and encourager of fellow women, one of Jenny’s favorite things about FCBD® style belly dance is the dominance of strong role models in the community, but even more so the fact that a body of any gender, shape, size, ethnicity, or age can take the stage and connect with an audience through graceful yet powerful movements.

Regen

Becky

Maria began her dancing journey in 2009 with Susan Wenger and Blue Fire and with Isabelle Celeste Murray of Black Rose Caravan. She fell in love with group improvisational style dancing because of its supportive, communal, and non-competitive aspects, where each dancer is encouraged to be the best they can be. The result is a beautiful dance that exists because all the dancers connect to play their parts, and that can be shared with dancers around the world. She has attended many workshops with Fat Chance Belly Dance instructors as well as other instructors from around the country.
